High School Mentor Program: Seniors mentor fifth graders.
D.A.R.E. – Drug Abuse Resistance Education training for fifth graders sponsored by the Brownwood Police Department
CHOICES – High School students serving as role models for sixth grade students.
Family Book Club – Verizon Grant providing an opportunity for families to read together.
HPU Lady Jackets – read and discuss character traits with BIS students.
BHS Lady Lions – serve as mentors for BIS girl’s basketball teams.
BIS serves as the host for the Brown County Spelling Bee.
Extreme Interest Days – guest speakers and presenters form the District and community present information on a variety of interests and hobbies.
Community Guest Speakers – visit classes on a regular basis.
BIS Patriotic Day – students host community veterans and active service men and women with a patriotic assembly and reception near Memorial Day.
Service Projects – “Letters from Home”; “Pennies for Patients”; “Pennies for Paws”, “Good Samaritan food drives”; recycling ink and toner cartridges for Reading Counts prizes, Campbell Soup labels for PE, Box Tops for Education for PTO; and pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth.
St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon – BIS students have received three Top Awards for their efforts to raise funds for St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
BIS participated in a toy drive this holiday season. Students, Teachers, and staff donated an amazing 260 new, unwrapped toys to help stock the “Toys4Kids” warehouse!
BIS sponsored a fundraiser called "Hope for Haiti," to raise money for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
